Assistant Director, Curriculum and
Instruction
Mike
Crabtree is the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Blount
County Schools. In this role, he is responsible for the supervision and
implementation of curriculum and instructional strategies for kindergarten thru
12th grade, with a focus on Pre-K. Mr. Crabtree also coordinates the
district’s efforts in the areas of federal projects, secondary education,
assessment and data, and elementary education. Additionally, he is charged with
coordinating the selection, ordering and distribution of textbook materials for
all grade bands and subject areas.
Mr.
Crabtree leads several special projects for BCS, including: the district’s digital
conversion initiative, work-based learning, updating career and technical
education programs, curriculum alignment, and teacher leader network
development.
He has
served more than 20 years in the Blount County School system. His previous
roles include:
- Principal, Carpenters Middle
School, 2008-2015;
- Assistant Principal, Carpenters
Middle School, 2001-2008;
- Assistant Principal, William
Blount High School, 1999-2001
- Assistant Director of Federal
Projects, Blount County Schools, 1996-1999

Mr.
Crabtree holds two degrees and two teaching certifications from Tennessee
Technological University:

Sciences), 1986
He
provides regular training to local educators and organizations in diverse areas
such as: student poverty; boys in crisis; grant writing; and programming for
gifted students.
He is a
member of several professional organizations such as: the National Association
of Middle Schools; National Association of Secondary School Principals; Tennessee
Association of Middle Schools; Tennessee Association for the Gifted Blount
County Education Association; Pi Lambda Theta Educational Honor Society; Phi
Alpha Theta Historical Honor Society; and the Blount County Principals
Association.
Mr.
Crabtree has also won numerous academic awards including an award for
distinction in science advisory from Maryville College.
